Abstract

The primary objective of this research is to utilize aluminum scrap for the development of alloys. Thermo-Calc software was used to perform thermodynamic simulations of equilibrium pseudo-binary diagrams, allowing for the evaluation of how modifying the content of alloying elements—specifically Mn, Mg, Cu, Zn, and Si—affected the initial composition. The modified alloys were produced via melting and casting into plate form. The resulting alloy prototypes were optimized using the following chemical compositions: Prototype 1 (Al-2%Si-2%Zn-1.46%Cu-1.4%Mn) and Prototype 2 (Al-4.98%Zn-1.95%Si-1.59%Cu-1.37%Mn). Heat treatments resulted in improved mechanical properties for both prototypes, with the effect being more pronounced in Prototype 2, which has the highest Zn content.
