Policy on corrections and retractions

The articles and other types of documents that have been published in the Revista de Ciencias Tecnológicas (RECIT) will remain current, exact, and unaltered as far as possible. However, exceptional circumstances may arise in which an article is published that must later be corrected, retracted, or even removed. Such actions will be carried out after careful consideration by the journal's editorial team, together with the support of Ediciones Complutense staff, to guarantee that they are carried out with the maximum guarantees and based on the standards recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

In these cases, the regime of norms and control mechanisms of scientific communication has several main rectification procedures according to the type, seriousness, and consequences of the inaccuracy detected. These can be in the form of a notice of errata or correction, a retraction, and, in rare cases, the removal of the article. The purpose of this mechanism is that the changes are transparent and the integrity of the academic record is always guaranteed.

Misprints

An errata notice will be published when it is necessary to correct an error or omission made by the journal after publication that may affect the record of the publication or the reputation of the authors or the journal, but where the academic integrity of the article remains intact. . All errors will be accompanied by a separate notice. The notice must provide clear details of the error and the changes that have been made to the document. Under these circumstances:

1.- The article will be corrected.
2.- A note will be added at the end of the article with a reference to the errata notice.
3.- A separate errata or correction notice will be posted linked to the corrected version.
4.- The document of the errata or correction will be paginated and with DOI.

Corrections

A notice of correction will be issued when it is necessary to correct an error or omission made by the authors that affect the registration of the publication or the reputation of the authors or the journal, but where the academic integrity of the article remains intact. All errors will be accompanied by a separate notice. The notice must provide clear details of the error and the changes that have been made to the document. Under these circumstances:

1.- The article will be corrected.
2.- A note will be added at the end of the article with a reference to the notice of correction.
3.- A separate errata or correction notice will be posted linked to the corrected version.
4.- The document of the errata or correction will be paginated and with DOI.

Retractions

A retraction notice will be published when a material error invalidates the conclusions of the article, or when there has been researched misconduct or publication misconduct. The authorships can request the retraction of their articles if their reasons meet the retraction criteria.

The retraction will be considered:

1.- Whether there is clear evidence that the findings are unreliable, either as a result of misconduct (for example, data fabrication or image manipulation) or error (for example, calculation error or experimental error).
2.- Whether the findings have been previously published elsewhere without proper cross-references, permission, or justification (for example, cases of redundant publication or duplicate publication).
3.- Whether the research constitutes plagiarism.
4.- If there is evidence of fraudulent authorship.
5.- Whether there is compromised peer review evidence.
6.- If there are indications of unethical research and violations of professional ethical codes.

When the decision to retract an article has been made:

1.- A 'retracted article' watermark will be added to the published version of the article record.
2.- In front of the title of the article, write Retracted article: [title of the article]
3.- A separate retraction statement, titled 'Retraction: [article title]', will be published and linked to the retracted article. This note will be signed by the editors of the magazine.
4.- The withdrawal statement will be paginated and will be assigned a DOI.

Item removal

Removal of an item will take place in rare circumstances where the issues are very serious in nature and cannot be addressed by a notice of correction or retraction.

This will only happen:

1.- When the article is clearly defamatory or infringes other legal rights.
2.- When an item is subject to a court order.
3.- When the item, if not acted upon, could pose a serious health risk.

In the event that an article is removed, the metadata (authorship and title) will be kept and the text will be replaced by a document indicating that the article has been removed for legal reasons.
